The History of the Department

The Department of Psychology of the Faculty of Psychological and Pedagogical Education and Fine Arts is a degree-granting department responsible for the training of specialists in program subject area 053 Psychology, the first level of higher education (bachelor).

It dates back to 1932 when the Teachers’ Training Institute was founded and the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology was established.

From 1981 to 2004, the Department was headed by Vasyl K. Demydenko, an Associate of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, a Foreign Associate of the Russian Academy of Education, a Doctor of Psychology, a Professor, a renowned Ukrainian psychologist, lecturer and the author of more than 200 scientific papers.

Under the guidance of Vasyl Demydenko, a powerful scientific school was established, which allowed to separate the Department of Psychology into an independent structural unit in 2001.

From 2005 to 2010, the Department was headed by Iryna O. Cherezova, a PhD in Psychology, an Associate Professor and Vasyl Demydenko’s student.

Since 2011, the Department of Psychology has been run by Olena Horetska, a PhD in Psychology and an Associate Professor.
