The History of the Department

In 1991, it was given the name of the Department of the History of Ukraine, Sociology and Culturology. In 1992, the rector’s order was signed on the reorganization of the Department of History of Ukraine and foundation of the Department of Historical and Economic Disciplines. In June 1999, Ihor Lyman became the head of this Department, and he has run the Department so far (apart from his postdoctoral research break). In connection with the foundation of the Faculty of the Humanities and Economics in 2001, the Department of History was divided into the Department of the History of Ukraine (headed by Ihor I. Lyman) and the Department of World History and Jurisprudence (headed by Yu.V. Voitsekhivskyi).

In 2001, the Department of the History of Ukraine separated from the Department of History that had been functioning at the educational institution since 1932 (since the foundation of Berdiansk Institute). In connection with its reorganization, the Department of the History of Ukraine merged with the Department of World History and Philosophy on September 1, 2016.
