Olga I. Hurenko was born on October 6, 1975 in the village of Blahovishchenka, Kuibyshevskyi district of Zaporizhzhia oblast. In 1997, she graduated from the Faculty of Preschool Education at P.D. Osypenko State Teachers’ Training Institute of Berdiansk (today − Berdiansk State Pedagogical University). In 2007, on the basis of the BSPU, she received her second higher education in the specialty ‘Social Pedagogy’.
After graduating from the Institute she worked as an assistant lecturer, senior lecturer, associate professor, professor, deputy dean and the head of the Scientific Department at Berdiansk State Pedagogical University. In 2015, she headed the Department of Social Pedagogy. She has been working as First Pro-Rector of BSPU since September 2016.

In 2005, Olha Hurenko successfully defended her PhD thesis The Formation of Ethnocultural Competence of Students at a Pedagogical University in a Multi-ethnic Environment, and in 2015 − her doctoral thesis Theoretical and Methodological Principles of Multicultural Education of Future Social Pedagogues in the specialty 13.00.04 − the Theory and Methods of Professional Education.

Olha Hurenko is a member of the specialized academic council K 18.092.01 at Berdiansk State Pedagogical University and a full member of the International Academy for the Humanization of Education. From 2013 to 2016 she was a coordinator of the joint European project TEMPUS-IV “Training of Teachers and Educational Managers for Work with Heterogeneous Groups and Organizations”. Owing to Olha Hurenko’s time and effort, within the framework of the project, the Competence Center for Inclusive Education of BSPU was supplied with the most up-to-date office equipment; a number of scientific and methodological events for the university staff, specialists in the field of social, pedagogical, psychological work and inclusive education of Zaporizhzhya region were organized and held.

Olha Hurenko is actively engaged in scientific work. She edited a collective monograph Professional Training of a Social Pedagogue: Theoretical and Practical Context (2013), collections of scientific articles Multicultural Education in Ukraine: History, Modernity and Prospects (2013) and Multiculturalism as a Pedagogical Problem (2015).
The main scientific works are the following monographs: individual ones − Ethnocultural Competence and Its Formation in Students of a Pedagogical University: the Technological Aspect (2008), Multicultural Education of Future Social Pedagogues: Theoretical and Methodical Aspect (2014), Polycultural Society and Social Work (2016), and collective ones − The Theory and Practice of Introducing a Competency Approach to Teaching History at School (2012), Professional Training of a Social Pedagogue: Theoretical and Practical Context (2013), Pedagogical Conditions of Personality Development: Theory and Practice (2013); textbooks approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine: The Formation of Ethnocultural Competence of Future Pedagogues in Multi-ethnic Environment (2007), Popularization of a Healthy Lifestyle among Students (2009) and Social and Pedagogical Work in a Multicultural Society (2014).

Olha Hurenko organically combines administrative, teaching and scientific work. She is a leading specialist in multicultural education. She delivers lectures at a high professional level, introduces the latest pedagogical technologies in the educational process, actively carries out social and pedagogical work in the socium. Olha Hurenko fruitfully collaborates with the city and district Departments of Education on the issues of inclusive education, with the Department of Organizational Work and Internal Policy of the Executive Committee of Berdiansk City Council on the issues of nationalities and ethnic cultures.

Since 2003 she has been leading the student ethnographic study group ‘Ridnyi krai’ (Homeland), the result of the activity of which is annual report-back conferences and performances according to ethnocultural traditions of the national communities of the Ukrainian Northern Azov Region. Olha Hurenko is the initiator of holding various social events in the University and the city of Berdiansk: social and pedagogical quests, brain rings, flashmobs, actions, etc. She supervises students’ scientific work. Olha Hurenko has trained winners of the National competition of students’ scientific works in the domain of ‘Social pedagogy and remedial education’ (2012, 2013) and ‘The topical issues of inclusive education’ (2016).

She enjoys high reputation and respect among university students and teaching staff.
For her conscientious work, personal contribution to the training of highly skilled specialists, fruitful scientific and pedagogical activity Olha Hurenko was awarded the Certificates of Merit of BSPU Rector, Berdiansk mayor and the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences as well as the Badges of Honour ‘Distinguised Educator of Ukraine’ (2005) and ‘Anton Makarenko’ (2009).
